Layer setup

by anonymous - 25 Nov 2009, 16:45 CET

My question is probably obvious to most users, but unfortunately not to me: I have decided to make a testchip in AMI C07M-A (now On-semi, 0.7u CMOS). I have the design rules, electrical rules, etc.

I wanted to start by inputing the layer map, but I don't understand the following: in the AMI documentation, the mask identification is tabulated as follows:

"Mask, IGS layer, Description"
So for e.g. Nwel, Mask=10, IGS=1, Description=N-WELL

Should I use the LayoutEditor layer manager to have the GDS layer correspond with the IGS layer and ignore the Mask number? I.e., in the case of the example should I use GDS_layer_1="N-Well" and forget about Mask=10? Or should I handle this differently?

Thanks in advance for clearing this matter...

I am not familar with the On-semi technology, but i can imagine to interpret the additional value in two different ways:

- Beside the GDSII layer number some technologies required a correct set datatype. If this value should be the datatype, please activate "map layer on open/save" for the GDSII file format in the setup and enter the value in the layer manager.

- As the GDSII layers are sometime unsorted, the value can be the technology order of the layers. If so, please order the layers in the netlist/technology in a corresponding way. This is only required, if you want to use the connectivity/LVS feature.

I just contacted On-semi about this; they mentioned that I can use the IGS number as GDS number and can ignore the mask number.

Thanks for your advice concerning layer mapping with respect to LVS.
