Auto logout in this forum is a pain ....

by Toby Mangold - 10 Jul 2009, 10:27 CEST

Hi,

the auto-logout in this forum happens pretty early. Typing a message, being distracted for a few minutes by a phone call and pressing submit will put your edits to /dev/null, nirvana, or however you'd like to call it. Edit are lost without any warning and possibility to go back.

Is there anything that can be done to prevent this "data loss" ? IMHO, submit posts can be accepted for a very long period of time even after an auto-logout, because the submit form itself is accessible only while logged in. Therefore, submit's can only originate from valid users.
Maybe the submit form has to be equipt with a on-time submit ticket to prevent spamming etc. But that should work.

Basically, I don't care about the technical solution. But data loss is unacceptable.

Regards,
Toby

That might be a problem with your openID provider or a combination with browser, cockies and openID provider. There is no timeout in the formum software. (a standard library is used here) As long the php session id is available you can post. Many hours login is possible with my system.

You mean, maintaining a login without any actions (page reload, etc.) should be working. Than I have to check my openID provider ....

Thanks
